Frequently asked questions
Is the sales staff on commission?
- Nope! Chiappetta Shoes believes in doing what is best for our customers and commission based sales can be a great thing, we strive to create a no-pressure sales environment where we address a problem and come up with a solution. Simple as that! At the end of the day we treat our clients like family non-commission based sales is the way to go.
What is your mission statement?
- Chiappetta Shoes is your first step when solving foot problems. Here at Chiappetta Shoes, we believe our sales process, people, and products can quickly solve a large variety of foot problems quickly and cost-effectively compared to wasting your time in many other avenues.
What is your return policy?
- Please see our return policy page: https://chiappettashoes.com/pages/return-policy
What is your shipping policy
As part of our effort to offer the lowest shipping rates (free shipping on orders over $150) and the most competitive prices we can, we do not cover the return shipping costs unless an item is deemed defective or there was an error on our part. Most of our customers do not choos to return their items.
Why is measuring your foot so important?
- The simple process of measuring your foot is the first and most important step when shopping at Chiappetta Shoes!!! Just think when is the last time you had your foot measured... with the lack of physical shoe stores these days, people rarely know the actual size of their feet. One of the main reasons we experience foot pain is because of poor fitting shoes and measuring the feet is the first step in any shoe store experience. Get measured!
Are your products more expensive compared to other competitors?
- We carry a huge variety of merchandise with a focus on the middle to upper end of the quality spectrum. When comparing pricing, Chiappetta Shoes is in-line with any other retailer with a potential of around $5 higher than compared to your discount operations like Dick's Sporting Goods or Rogan's Shoes. We value your time and dollar and to highlight that, Chiappetta Shoes offers a great loyalty program. To find out more information, visit here: https://chiappettashoes.com/pages/cosa-nostra
History
When did the company start?
- Chiappetta Shoes started in 1921! The business started out as a shoe repair shop by Charles Pasquale Chiappetta who immigrated to the United States from Marano Marchesato in the province of Cosenza, a southern region of Calabria, Italy. He had training in shoe repair in Italy and traveled with his brother Carmine in the mid 1910's, first working in coal mines, then heading back to Italy for a short period of time. Pasquale's cousin was the mother of Ralph Tenuta of Tenuta's Delicatessen and had settled in Kenosha, WI because of the prosperous industry at the time. Our very first location was a repair shop at the railroad depot in Kenosha and shortly after opening Pasquale purchased a house on 50th Street and built our primary location right onto the house at 1700 50th St.
How many generations have been a part of the business?
- Chiappetta Shoes is in it's fourth generation of operations. The first generation was Charles Pasquale Chiappetta, starting the business in 1921. Pasquale fell ill in the mid 1940's amidst World War II. Our grandfather, Frederick Orlando Chiappetta, enlisted early at the age of 17 and was fighting in the Pacific theater. In his third year of service, Fred was granted an honorable discharge and came home to Kenosha to help out his parents and take over the family business. While running the business from the the mid 1940's, Fred married Helen Victoria Swiderski, a Polish girl from Mosinee, WI. They raised three kids together and at the very young age of 44, Fred died of a heart attack in his home during a Christmas Eve party. Helen, with the experience of a secretary at Simmon's Mattress company, took the business over right after becoming a widow. Luckily our great-uncle Charles Giovanni Chiappetta owned and operated a men's clothing store at the same time and helped Helen acclimate to the world of shoes. Helen ran the business successfully from 1970 to 1985 when her son, Frederick Charles Chiappetta came into the business. Fred ushered in our current format of Pedorthics and created a niche in orthopedic footwear and manufacturing custom orthotics. Fred's wife Lori joined the business in the mid 1990s to help out with the books in a growing business. Fred and Lori had two kids, Tony (me) and Nicholas who joined the business both after graduating from UW Milwaukee in 2008 and 2010 retrospectively. Four generations strong.
How has the company changed over the years?
- Over the course of a century, Chiappetta Shoes is still doing the same thing Pasquale started in 1921... helping people live life better with the right shoes and inserts.
